Its origins of the company go back to its predecessors in 1811 as well as in 1934. Suntrust Banks Inc is a public company listed on the NYSE under 'STI'.

As at 2012, within its 12 states it provides 1,651 retail branches and 2,914 ATMs with over 80% of its branch office locations in Florida, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Maryland.
